Review: Girl In The Arena by Lise Haines

Girl In The Arena by Lise Haines

3.5/5 stars

Girl in the ArenaI was a little disappointed by this book. It had such a promising premise but in reality it was lacking. For a book entitled girl in the arena i would of liked to of seen more of the girl in the arena, 324 pages and only 6 were about Lyn - the main character- actually in the arena. I was expecting more of a hunger games-esque book but the majority of the book is her making the decision to go into the arena. It felt as though it was building to something that never came. The story didn't seem to end as such it just ceased. Like the author got bored and decided to wrap it up in the epilogue, but that could be a fault of over editing. Although i enjoyed reading the book I'm not in a huge hurry to re-read it. Lise Haines did a great job of creating the characters they were all well thought out and well portrayed but i just wished she'd spent half that effort on the ending. It seemed as though she had an ending planned, built on it and then changed her mind which definitely left the book lacking the spectacular ending it deserved. The girl in the arena would of easily been a 5 star book if the end had been more fulfilling, it didn't live up to its potential.
